September 2003 Newsletter
A New Season We begin our 2003-2004 season with a program arranged by President Jim Kuryak. Jim Grucella, Herb Benson and Jeff Macartny from Thermal Foams, Inc. will be the presenters and show and tell us all about their various products. Thermal Foams is family owned and has been manufacturing and distributing rigid foam insulation and related products for more than 50 years. Our dinner that evening will cost $20 inclusive. Reservations, as always, continue to be extremely important to assure proper food preparation and seating arrangements. Please call or fax your reservations to the Builders Office (Jim/Jenny Fitz-Patrick) at 283-0557 or (fax) 283-0733. We bring your attention to two seminars being held in our area in the next couple of months. The first one is "NY Construction Defect and Mold Litigation" which will be held at the Holiday Inn in Buffalo on November 20, 2003. The other seminar is "Addressing Urban Drainage in New York" which is scheduled at Four Points By Sheraton Buffalo Airport on October 29, 2003. If you are interested in either of these seminars or need further information, please contact me at the Builders office (283-0557). Credit Union As a member of the NCBA you can also be a member of our credit union to take advantage of the many benefits available. The benefits include savings accounts, CDs, Christmas Clubs, Checking Accounts, Mortages, Home Equity Loans and Student Loans, all at a competitive rate. Also available is a low cost Master Charge and paying your bills from home. For further information contact the Oxy-Chem Niagara FCU at 284-4110. They also have an office in Meadowbrook Square Plaza in North Tonawanda. Golf Tournament We have had two great events since our last meeting in June which many of you enjoyed. The first was our 7th annual golf tournament held July 16th at Willowbrook Golf Course in Lockport. We had the greatest turnout ever with over 90 registered to participate. This was due to the fact that 84 Lumber Company had 36 golfers in their group. Al Ridge of Ridge Overhead Door won the 50/50 split and received $240 as his share of the split. Other winners were Rick Chojecki for the longest drive, Duane Huels for closest to the pin on #4 and Mike Ridge for closest to the pin on #18. Dan Rhodes of 84 Lumber was determined to be the most honest golfer. We thank our great sponsors who were:
Picnic The other great event was our annual picnnic held on Thursday, August 14th at West Canal Park in North Tonawanda. Special thanks are extended to Chairman Larry Quigliano and his assistants Rachel Leo and Bob Minkiewicz. J.T. Wheatfield's did a super job with the catering and Merv Cook's corn was outstanding as usual. The games got started a little late but those who participated seemed to have a good time. The only downside of the day was that three borrowed golf clubs and a newly purchased tug of war rope disappeared during the door prize giveaways. We would appreciate the return of these items so they will be available for future picnics. Please call Larry at 622-1093 or Jim at the Builders Office (283-0557) if you know where these items are. The picnic was an ever bigger success due to these fine sponsors who helped make the picnic affordable. They are:
