June 2004 Newsletter
June Meeting Opening Doors (and Windows!) Our meeting this month, arranged by Tim Lewis of Niagara Gutter, will feature Atrium Window and Doors. Mr. Rod Miller, the Atrium sales representative, will be making the presentation. Our dinner that evening will be Dana's famous BBQ Rib and Chicken Dinner. As mentioned above, Atrium Windows will provide cocktails after the Board Meeting and prior to the General Meeting. Reservations continue to be extremely important so we have proper seating arrangements and food preparation. Please make your reservations by Friday June 4th by calling Jim or Jenny at the Builders Office (283-0557) or fax them to 283-0733. This will be our last General Meeting until September so let's get a great turnout. Please make your reservations upon receipt of this notice. Cost for dinner is $20 inclusive. Town of Pendleton Has New Contractor Requirement We have received a fax from Dave Gerber, the Building inspector for the Town of Pendleton, advising us that the town has adopted a contractor license requirement. He asked if we could notify our members of this and that there is an application form to complete and a $100 fee to be sent to the town. If you have any questions regarding this please contact Dave at 625-8833 x15. We have a copy of the application if anyone has need for it. Hey... You Never Know We are pleased to advise that our State Director Skip Mazenauer won the Build-Pac 50/50 split at the May meeting. He received $38 as his share of the drawing. Our 8th annual golf tournament will be held on Monday July 12 at the beautiful Niagara Frontier Country Club located at 1058 Lake Road, Town of Porter. Chairman Jim Kuryak of Niagara National Insurance advises that the price will be $90 per person. This price includes 18 hole green and cart fees, bucket of practice balls, lunch, dinner, longest drive and closest to the pin contest, as well as special prizes and surprises. Lunch (hot dogs, burgers, beer and pop) will be served from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm. Shot gun start at 12:30 pm and should be completed by 5:30 pm with dinner set for about 6:00 pm. Dinner will be BBQ ribs, chicken, and sausage, along with various salads and corn on the cob. We are in need of Green and Tee sponsors, which cost $100. Also needed are prizes (golf balls, hats, shirts, booze, gift certificates, etc.) for giveaways at the dinner. Reservation forms will be mailed to all members before the end of May, but in the meantime plan your foursomes, since we are limiting participation to the first 80 people who send in their checks. As previously announced, our annual picnic will be held on Wednesday, August 18th at West Canal Park in Pendleton (same location as last year). Chairman Larry Quigliano is still waiting for your call volunteering your services to assist him with the many details of putting a picnic together. You can reach him at his office (284-4074). We are still working to keep the price at $30 ($40 at the picnic) but will advise in the special picnic bulletin early in July. As things stand now, we expect to have hot dogs, burgers, sausage, salads, corn and clams early with your choice of a strip steak or BBQ rib dinner around 6:00 pm. We are also asking JT's to have a cash bar for your other liquid refreshment (beer and pop will be provided in ticket price). We will also need corporate sponsors ($100) to help keep the picnic affordable. We also need miscellaneous items for door prizes. In the mean time be sure to mark your calendar to reserve Wednesday, August 18th for the best picnic ever! Chairman Joseph Paonessa advises that we will have a Festival of Homes 2004. Since we do not have a particular sub-division to hold it at, it will be a scattered site show like we had last year. It will be held in various areas in Niagara County and will run for two weekends beginning September 11th-12th and closing on September 18th-19th. To date the following builders have indicated that they will participate in this year's show: Barden Homes, David Homes, Prestige Designs, Rosal Construction, Ryan Homes, Eddy and Lewin Homes, and Glenwood Builders. A meeting will be held shortly for all builders in the show to sign the necessary contracts and pay the funds to cover the advertising expenses. Any other builders interested in being in the show should notify Joe right away. Membership We extend a very warm welcome to our newest member whose application for associate membership was approved by the Board of Directors. Approved was:
Why not give Paul a call now while it is fresh in your mind to see how you and he can do business as members of the Niagara County Builders Association. Change of Address We have received a letter from James Mordeno of Mordeno Construction Co., Inc. that his address has changed to 2603 Love Road on Grand Island. His phone and fax numbers remain the same. Please change your records accordingly. Did You Know? Our "Did You Know" advertising campaign is off to a flying start. You have probably seen the first ad in the Niagara Wheatfield Tribune or the Lewiston Porter Sentinel. The first ad also appeared in the Niagara Section of the Buffalo News on Sunday, May 16th. The "Did You Know" committee will be presenting our program to various city, town and village representatives in the next couple of months to further explain our position. NYSBA Advertising Campaign As advised in past bulletins, your New York State Builders Association (NYSBA) had an extensive and expensive advertising campaign in March regarding the Section 240 Reform. The campaign on the radio, TV and billboards was intended to attract the attention of our Senators and Assembly people to the seriousness of this issue. To finance this effort, NYSBA asked all members to donate a minimum of $30 each. In our association this would be approximately $1900. The campaign is still open and checks in any amount payable to New York Build Pac would be appreciated. Send the checks to the Builders Office at 212 70th Street in Niagara Falls. If you have any questions, please call me at 283-0557. |
