Congratulations

We extend our sincere congratulations to Peter and Laura Mascaro of Peter Mascaro Construction Inc. on their 50th wedding anniversary. As most of you know, Pete "retired" in 1995 and the business was taken over by his daughter Gina and her husband Angelo "Butch" Lore. Best of continued success to the great couple and a great building company.

Congratulations are also in order for James Talarico, President of Talarico Bros. Building Corporation on being selected "Builder of the Month" by Builder/Architect magazine. Jim's grandfather and great uncle emigrated from Italy and in 1921 started their construction business in Niagara Falls. 84 years later, Jim is still building houses in the Western New York area. Jim is not quite this old but took over the business in 1969 after graduating from Niagara University. Keep up the good work, Jim!!!

Build Pac 50/50 Split

The winner of last month's 50/50 split was our State Director Skip Mazenauer who received $46 as his share of the split. How much he had when he left the bar after the meeting, only he knows.

Board of Directors

We are pleased to advise that Donna Tisdale of Countrywide Home Loans was selected to fill the open position left when Brian Tomeny of B&L Wholesale Supply resigned a couple months ago. We look forward to Donna's input at the Board Meetings and her help in other matters Board members are requested to assist with.

Festival of Homes 2005

Our annual Home Show will be held in the fall of 2005. Co-Chairpersons Bill Burg (Alside) and Rachael Leo (Kitchen World) indicate things are going great with six homes committed to date, and room for 3 or 4 more. Agreeing to participate so far are Barden Homes (2), Paul Game Construction/Barden, Patrick Homes, Rosal Construction and Talarico Bros. Construction. Next meeting for the home show committee and the builders is scheduled for Wednesday May 4th at JT Wheatfield's. Coffee and pastry at 8:45 AM with meeting to start at 9:00 AM prompt. Future meetings are set for every other Wednesday at the same time and place. If you want to participate as a builder or have a product that the builder may need, you are invited to attend the meetings. The home show dates are September 17-18, 24-25, and October 1-2. Any questions, please call Bill at 297-1118/870-1437 or Rachael at 434-5606/628-1813.

Reminder

Our June meeting set for June 8th 2005 will feature NYSBA Executive Vice President Phil LaRocque and NYSBA President John Hofelich. The meeting will be held at the Youngstown Yacht Club located at 491 Water Street, Youngstown, NY 14174. Phone number at the club is 745-7230.

Lobby Day

As most of you are aware, Lobby Day was held on April 19th in Albany, NY. Representing your Association was President Stanley Swogier and 1st Vice President Larry Quigliano. Also attending were Gary Pollard and Scott Schlager from Pollard Windows. Meetings were held with State Senator George Maziarz, Assemblyman Byron Brown, Assemblyman James Hayes and Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte. All of them were well received, with the exception of the one with Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte, who indicated she could see no problem with the 240/241 and was not in favor of any changes.

Six Flags Darien Lake

We have been invited to participate along with the Buffalo Niagara Builders Association and the Home Improvement Council of Western New York in their annual fun time at probably the greatest amusement park in the area. It will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2005 and will cost about $25 per person, which includes lunch and admission to the amusement park. Please call Cathy at the office (693-5736) and let her know your intentions. We must have a minimum of 30 people (adults and children) to make it a success and cover the sponsorship fee we are being asked to pay to the park. Please call immediately to let us know how many will be attending.

Yes There Will be Golf

As previously advised, our annual golf tournament will be held Monday July 11, 2005 at Niagara Frontier Country Club in Youngstown, NY. Your cost to participate will be $100 per person, which includes green fees, cart, and bucket of practice balls, lunch, dinner, prizes, and surprises. Jim Kuryak of Niagara National Insurance will be our Chairman again this year. The tournament is limited to the first eight-four people who register and pay their fee. We will also need tee and green sponsors. Cost is $100. Please call Jim at 684-6000 or 830-8323 if you have any questions. A special golf bulletin will be sent to all members early in May with all the details and an application form. In the meantime, get your foursome together and set aside July 11th for a fun day.

Picnic

Reserve the date of Thursday August 25th for our other great summer fun event - our annual picnic. Larry Quigliano has agreed to chair it again this year and it will be in the same place as the last two years - West Canal Park in Pendleton. JT Wheatfield's will cater our picnic again this year. Price, hopefully, will be the same as last year - $35 in advance and $40 the day of the picnic. Food format is the same as last year, with hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage, corn, steamed clams, and salads early, and steak or BBQ ribs for dinner about 6:30 PM. Beer and pop is included in the price, and a cash bar will be available for your other drinks. Larry will need members to run the games (earlier than in previous years) and also someone to get sponsors ($100) to keep the price of the picnic affordable. We will also need door prizes (shirts, caps, golf balls, tools, etc.) for game winners and regular drawings. Please call Larry at 284-4074 or 622-1093 and offer your assistance in the above matters. Tickets, along with a special bulletin, will be sent to all members in early June. In the meantime, mark your calendar for the 25th of August for a great time.

See you at the meeting on May 11th.

Executive Officer
